A STITCH

An interview

What was your first job?
Starting as a graduate to work with Austen to establish Salts has been my one and only ‘real’ job.

Any memorable anecdote or experience from the past?
Whilst on my round the world trip in Thailand I somehow managed to challenge a passing American tourist to a bug eating competition! I managed to gag on one of its hairy legs and proceeded to spray passers by with a torrent of insect arms, legs and heads. Needless to say I made a quick getaway in a passing Tuk Tuk.

What does Salts mean to you?
It means a great deal as I was here at the start and have seen the business grow to be a great success. But ultimately Salts means great suits, great service with style and integrity.

Why do you work at Salts?
Since starting with the company my role has grown to incorporate many different functions. Each day poses a different challenge but still nothing quite beats the feeling you get when you try a suit on a client for the first time and he looks a million dollars and you can say to yourself ‘I did that’.

What makes made to measure special?
Made to measure is special to different people for different reasons! Some because they can’t buy a suit off the peg because they do not conform to so called ‘normal body shape’! It is the only opportunity some people have to look great in their clothing.

Do you have any personal influences?
My Family.

What are the key items in a mans wardrobe?
Suits in plain navy, plain charcoal, navy stripe, charcoal stripe, black. Friday blazer with flannels and a Sports Jacket for the weekend. Matching shoes and belt. Plus a classic Tuxedo which is an important addition.

Bright linings? Yes or no?
Most definitely! A grey suit is a grey suit but with a fancy lining it is certainly something a little different.

Rugby or football?
No contest – football. Although given that I am a Leeds United fan I have certainly contemplated changing allegiance over recent years.

When should one wear a waistcoat?
Always with a morning coat and then after that it is very much down to personal preference.

Best concert you ever went to?
Kings of Leon, Manchester Apollo 2007.

Best dressed Englishman 2008?
Jude Law

One fact that hardly anyone knows about you?
I have jumped out of a plane at 12,000 ft
