A STITCH
IN TIME

An interview

  1. Number 1
    What was your first job?

Bradford based worsted mill J H Clissold & Son. I started in the production department then moved to sales.

Working with spinners, weavers, menders and finishers I developed an understanding, appreciation and a passion for Yorkshire worsted fabric.

  2. Number 2
Whats inspiring you in British tailoring at the moment?

You can't beat a single breasted jacket (one or two buttons) nipped at the waist with slanted flap pockets, side vents and a flat front slimmer leg trouser.

  3. Number 3
    Do you wear tweed?

Yes, I am really into tweed at the moment!

  4. Number 4
What makes made to measure so special?

"Ready To Wear" is convenient but a size 40 will go on anyone 39" to 41" chest, 5' 8" to 6' tall, sloped shoulders, square shoulders, stooped, upright. It's a multi-fit garment which rarely fits anyone properly. Made to Measure tailoring only fits you. Beautifully made in the fabric and style of your choice. That’s why its special. Made to Measure customers don’t ever go back to buying off the peg.

  5. Number 5
What does Salts mean to you?

I was born a mile from Salts Mill. I visited the village of Saltaire on school trips and studied Salts textile production. It earned World Heritage status a few years ago, a truly inspiring place. We are as passionate about our product as Titus Salt was about his. I love this place and we are all inspired by the heritage. There is no hype here, nothing ostentatious.

  6. Number 6
Should you show a bit of shirt cuff?

    If you want to.

  7. Number 7
Why does Yorkshire fabric dominate your collection?

Easy. Its because Yorkshire fabric is the best in the world.

  8. Number 8
    Best dressed Englishman 2008?

Jude Law is sickeningly cool and Daniel Craig is the obvious choice but I will go with Brosnan. Congratulations Pierce.

  9. Number 9
Best concert you ever went to?

    U2 Croke Park June 2006

  10. Number 10
    Favourite restaurant?

    The Fleece, Addingham, West Yorkshire

  11. Number 11
    Cricket or golf?

Matthew Hoggard is a good mate so I'll say cricket.

  12. Number 12
One fact that hardly anyone knows about you?

I can play the piano and tap dance, but not together
